Sales and Use Taxes
Each state has different laws in relation to sales and use taxes. In the state of Arizona, we have what is called a Transaction Privilege Tax (TPT), which is a form of a sales tax. It is essentially a tax on the privilege to run your business in the state. While the state of Arizona generally collects this tax on behalf of counties and cities, from businesses themselves, there are cities and counties considered to be independent of this program. These municipalities have the ability to charge this tax directly to vendors in their jurisdiction. Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Chandler, Arizona fall into this category.
Exemptions
While most services are exempt from paying this type of tax, construction companies, landscapers, and other related businesses often offer services to the public that are considered taxable. These rules can differ from city to city and county to county and even the tax rate can vary. This can cause confusion for business owners and lead to incorrect amounts of taxes being paid. For those in need, we also offer Business Tax Consulting service.
